On October 25th, Parker underwent a voluntary test administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA). Sources have confirmed to BBC Sport that Parker's test result was positive for the recreational drug, cocaine, and not performance-enhancing substances.
In a statement on his Instagram account, Parker wrote, "I took a voluntary test before my recent fight, and the result was adverse. This came as a surprise. I did not take any prohibited substance. I do not use performance-enhancing drugs, and I do not support their use. I am fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation and believe it will prove my innocence."
Parker's promoter also confirmed an "adverse finding" on Friday, but the boxer remains optimistic. He could face a ban ranging from three months to two years, depending on the circumstances and the findings of the investigation. The ban, if imposed, would be handed down by UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC).
However, UKAD did not conduct this particular test, so they will need to launch their own inquiry. The BBC has reached out to VADA and the BBBC for comment on the matter.
Parker, who was once the WBO heavyweight champion from 2016 to 2018, had his reign ended by Britain's Anthony Joshua in Cardiff. He was hoping to position himself for a fight against the undisputed champion, Oleksandr Usyk, before his loss to Wardley.
